Commonwealth Park

Commonwealth Park is a 9,000 square metres (97,000 sq ft) modern urban park. It has been described as having "British character but with a distinct Mediterranean feel".

Most of the 3,000 cubic metres (110,000 cu ft) of soil required for planting trees and shrubs at the park was largely recycled from local waste building material and from the excavation of the site of the old Theatre Royal.

Over 130 trees, all of which are Mediterranean species or from areas with similar climatic conditions, have been imported from Italy.

The park was officially inaugurated and open to the public on 12 June 2014, by the Honourable Chief Minister Fabian Picardo.

EU Funding helped the with Equipment, Materials & Building Works. A total of £1.5m was given from an EU grant.
